John N. Maher
Attorney at Law | Of Counsel

John started his career as an active duty Army officer, first as a prosecutor in Germany, and then defending Soldiers in criminal appeals. After leaving active duty, John served as a Department of Justice litigator, representing the United States in federal contract lawsuits. Then, his private sector law firm experience included serving as a partner in a top-100 BigLaw/AmLaw firm, after which John was appointed to the senior executive service as the General Counsel of the Office of Personnel Management, the agency that oversees federal employees. Throughout his career, John has remained active in the Army Reserve, having served as the Chief of Government Contracts and Fiscal Law for U.S. Forces, Afghanistan, in Kabul and for the Defense Intelligence Agency. Beyond his Army, law firm, and Federal Government service, John spent a year with the Justice Center in Parwan, Afghanistan, training and mentoring Afghan attorneys. John holds a JD, MBA, LLM, and a Masters Degree from the Army War College. He was on the adjunct faculties at the NIU Colleges of Law and Business from 2014-2019.  He lives and works in Chicago.
